Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s Summer Racing Season

Known as one of southern California’s premier summer destinations, the Del Mar Racetrack once again sets the scene for the summer horse racing season. Big stakes at Del Mar means big rewards and the 2025 stakes schedule is no exception. The 86th summer season features 39 stakes worth $7,875,000 over 31 race days at the seaside oval.
Del Mar’s richest and most prestigious race, the $1,000,000 Grade I FanDuel Racing Pacific Classic will be run for the 34th time on Saturday, August 30. Jockeys race against each other in the hopes of securing a coveted spot at the Breeders’ Cup Classic on October 31- November 1, also this year at Del Mar!
It is a long-standing tradition for fans to come dressed in their best attire and extravagant headpieces on Opening Day. Fashion trendsetters compete for more than $4,000 in prizes in the Opening Day Hats Contest, where participants are recognized in four categories: Best Racing Theme, Most Glamorous, Best Fascinator, and Best Flowers. Opening Day also features exclusive access to a party with DJs, photo booths, cocktail bars, and private wagering. After the races, enthusiasts also won’t want to miss the Official After Pony Party at Rancho Valencia, which includes an endless buffet, live DJ, dancing, and a cash bar.
- July 19 – Del Mar Beer Fest: Sip on a variety of brews, ciders and seltzers from an exclusive trackside viewing area, presented by Pizza Port Brewing Co.
- Aug. 2 – Uncorked: Del Mar Wine Fest: A popular trackside event returns, featuring over 150 wines from around the world and gourmet bites from local San Diego vendors.
- Aug. 9 – Tacos & Tequila: Attendees can enjoy tacos and tequila tastings from local favorites and classic brands.
- Aug. 16 – Breeders’ Cup Tumbler Giveaway – In anticipation of the 2025 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Del Mar, racing fans will receive a 16 oz. stainless steel Breeders’ Cup branded tumbler. Available for free with paid admission while supplies last.
- Aug. 23 – Taste of New Orleans: Sponsored by Bacardi, racegoers can experience the vibrant flavors and sounds of the Big Easy, right at Del Mar.
- Aug. 31 – Family Fun Day: Presented by Power Pony, Family Fun Day is filled with fun and free kid-friendly attractions – including obstacle courses, rock climbing and more. Plus, children 17 and under get in free!
- Sept. 6 – College Day: Show a valid student ID for free racetrack admission, plus exclusive access to the Grandstand Seating.
