O’side Turkey Trot

November 23, Thursday

The 12th annual O’side Turkey Trot returns on Thanksgiving Day with Pacific Marine Credit Union as the title sponsor and an added senior fitness event the day before. Since its inception in 2006, the fast-paced Trot has grown from 2,200 to 10,000 participants, with the largest growth coming from baby boomers over 60 years of age.

According to race director Kathy Kinane, the event benefits over 60 nonprofits annually and has put Oceanside on the map nationally as a place for active families to live, work and play. Runner’s World Magazine named the event a “Top Trot” in the country, which has attracted participants from 46 states and 460 cities.

The O’side Turkey Trot features a downhill 10K and 5K, which begin at Oceanside Civic Center and end at the Pier. There is also live entertainment to look forward to along the course and multiple kids’ races. Participants are encouraged to come in their best costume and compete for prizes in the costume contest at 9:45am. New this year is a $1,000 prize purse for the day of the event and an Instagram costume contest.

Participants in the O’side Turkey Trot can pick up their bib number, T-shirt and goodie bag at the pre-race expo on November 22 and 23. The expo takes place at Junior Seau Beach Community Center at 300 N. Strand, Oceanside. Oceanside Civic Center is located at 300 N. Coast Highway. For more information visit www.osideturkeytrot.com.
