August 6 – 13
North County’s most popular film festival returns to Oceanside from August 6 to 13. Established in 2009, the Oceanside International Film Festival is an opportunity for independent filmmakers to have their work screened and judged. It also gives film buffs a jumpstart chance for viewing local and international films in a city known for its rich history, beautiful beaches and artistic freedom. The festival runs screenings with celebrations that take place at Star Theatre and Sunshine Brooks Theatre, two of Oceanside’s oldest theatres. Don’t forget to look out for some celebrity sightings.
The festival publicly screens a mixture of unique and independent films from locals and from other countries. Sixty films were shown on the big screen in 2016. The lineup is divided into days of family-friendly and mature audience films. Movie goers can choose from a variety of screening blocks to suit their tastes: environmental, world beat sci-fi, emotional and sentimental appeal, coming of age, comedy, experimental, serious dramas, gay and lesbian, horror, animation, military, social awareness and surfing.
