The world’s fastest 5K returns to Carlsbad for its 33rd year during the weekend of March 24 and 25. Runners follow a scenic course along the Pacific Ocean that finishes at Carlsbad Village Drive and State Street.
Races are spread across two days. On Saturday, the Junior Carlsbad5000 offers distance options from one quarter-mile to one mile. The races are designed for children up to 12 years old, but there is also a shorter Toddler Trot and Diaper Dash. Start times for the races range from 7:40am to 10:20am. On Sunday, the 5K distance run and larger 20K distance run start at 6:55am. At the finish line, runners can enjoy two post-race Pizza Port beers and live music from Betamaxx.
Throughout the weekend, there is a Health and Fitness Expo in The Village of Carlsbad on Roosevelt Street. It features the latest in running technology, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The expo is free and open to the public. It runs from 7am to 1pm on Saturday and from 6:30am to 1pm on Sunday. Visit www.runrocknroll.com/carlsbad-5000.
