America’s Finest City Half Marathon Celebrates 40 Years

August 20

The America’s Finest City (AFC) Half Marathon and 5K returns to celebrate a 40-year milestone on August 20. The marathon benefits the Cabrillo National Monument Foundation, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and other local charities.

The AFC Half’s 13.1-mile course starts at historic Cabrillo National Monument, past Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, through quaint Point Loma neighborhoods, along the San Diego Bay, and through downtown San Diego before finishing in historic Balboa Park in front of the Hall of Champions. The accompanying AFC 5K, 3.1-mile run/walk starts and finishes in Balboa Park in front of the Hall of Champions. The 5K starts at 6:15 am and the half marathon kicks off at 6:30 am.

The race weekend also includes a two-day AFC Fitness Expo held at Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina (located at 1380 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego) on August 18 and 19. The expo, which is free and open to the public, features numerous fitness-related vendors with interactive displays, samples and great bargains on apparel and equipment.
