3rd Annual GI Film Festival Brings Award-Winning Films to San Diego
October 18 – 22

The GI Film Festival San Diego once again brings the untold stories of the United States military to life from October 18 to 22. The much-anticipated military film festival features eight west coast premieres, along with several screenings, filmmaker appearances and panel discussions at various San Diego County venues. It is one of only a few film festivals in the entire U.S. to exclusively feature stories for, by and about military service members and veterans.

The festival’s opening night screening on October 18 features the west coast premiere of “The 2 Sides Project,” a post-Vietnam War focused documentary. The film follows the unforgettable journey of six U.S. sons and daughters as they discover a country and people with whom they share a common history. Director Anthony Istrico is scheduled to attend opening night, as well as some of the people featured in the film.

For the first time, the GI Film Festival San Diego is conducting screenings in North County at Regal Carlsbad 12 on October 19. The popular Family Movie Night returns to the USS Midway Museum on October 20 to celebrate military families and provide a fun evening out after a busy week. Festival organizers are working with partner organizations to provide complimentary tickets to local military families.

Additional screenings, filmmaker appearances, panel discussions and related events are held at AMC Mission Valley 20 on October 21 and 22. On October 22, the festival features the long-awaited Local Film Showcase, which highlights San Diego’s long and important military history. An Awards Celebration honoring the festival’s best from the Local Film Showcase also takes place on October 21 at KPBS on the campus of San Diego State University.

All festival events are open to the public, with special discounted opportunities for active duty personnel and veterans. Tickets to individual screenings and all access passes are available online. For more information visit www.gifilmfestivalsd.org.
