The Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational, a San Diego tradition for 24 years, brings together surfers, scientists and community members to support the fight against cancer. The beachside fundraiser kicks off at 7 am with a surfing tournament that pairs teams of four with a surf legend to compete in the contest.
The luau follows at 11:30 am with live entertainment and a tropical buffet. Live and silent auctions feature one-of-a-kind pieces of surf-inspired artwork, exceptional surfboards and vacation packages. The program closes with the presentation of the Rell Sunn Award, which honors an individual who has made a difference in the battle against cancer and who embodies the “aloha spirit.”
All proceeds from the Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational benefit Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health. To date, the annual event has raised more than $7 million to help transform cancer prevention, detection and care.
