15-Acre Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Field
Open through October 31 – The world-famous Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Field is open daily through October 31. Over 50 years of fall traditions and memories have been created here. Visitors enjoy the amazing fields, tractor hayrides, straw maze and farm zoo. Weekends feature live entertainment, Snows Pony Rides, BBQ, kettle corn and other family-friendly events. Grab a wheelbarrow and pick a giant Big Mac from the field. Also available are Jack O’ Lantern pumpkins, Ghost pumpkins, Cinderella Pumpkins, minis, squash, gourds and other fall décor.

Pumpkin Festival Craft Fair
October 7 and 8 – Check American handmade crafts and fine art for sale from 80 artisans. Bates’ Pumpkin Patch will be open so visitors can enjoy the fall decorations, tractor hayrides, straw maze, Snows Pony Rides, petting corral and delicious food from a variety of vendors as well. Early birds can start their fall morning with the Lion’s Club all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast from 7-10 am each day. All proceeds from the breakfast benefit local charities.

Scarecrow Contest
October 14 – Participants design and build a scarecrow to exhibit in the Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch. Scarecrows will be displayed in the Pumpkin Patch through October 31.

Costume Contest and Parade
October 28, 9am-1pm – People of all ages can show off their Halloween costumes in this parade. Prizes are awarded in four age categories. Participants receive a certificate of participation, Halloween treats and a tractor hayride ticket. Judging begins at 11am.

Howl-o-ween Doggie Costume Contest and Parade
October 29, 11am-noon – This contest and parade is especially for canines of all shapes and sizes to strut their stuff and compete for prizes.

Christmas Arts, Crafts and Vintage Market
November 11-12 and 24-26 – Bates Nut Farm’s largest craft fair of the year features over 80 artisans selling a variety of American handmade crafts and fine art. There is live music from 12-3pm and free hayrides with Santa are offered on Friday and Saturday. The all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast is available from the Valley Center Lions Club during the Thanksgiving weekend.
